Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Advisory Council

The HSI Advisory Council is co-chaired by Dean Laura Alamillo and Professor Robert Train, and includes representatives from across the campus, the local community, and Sonoma State alumni. The Council was formed based on the HSI Task Force Recommendation Report completed in December 2020. The Council is tasked with developing an HSI success framework rooted in the concept of “servingness.” This idea, introduced by Gina Garcia, Anne-Marie Núñez, and Vanessa A. Sansone (2019), emphasizes the shift from merely enrolling Latinx students to actively serving and supporting their success in a multidimensional way. The Council’s work will also align with the university’s core values as outlined in the Strategic Plan and Graduation Initiative 2025. Learn more about “servingness” in this article.
